Our Senior Automation Engineers are trusted to lead projects end‑to‑end from requirements and design through implementation, commissioning, and client delivery. This is not a support or maintenance role. You will act as a technical authority, work directly with clients, and influence control system architecture and standards across projects supporting  critical infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. 

PACIV maintains a strong project backlog across utilities and advanced manufacturing, offering long-term stability and consistent technical challenges. Projects range from small process modifications to large, site‑wide control system deployments, providing a balanced mix of design, programming, commissioning, and long‑term system support.

 

Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Industrial Automation Engineer to join our Indianapolis, IN team. This role is ideal for experienced engineers who enjoy owning their work, solving complex problems, and delivering complete automation solutions in utility and manufacturing environments.
This position manages multiple concurrent projects, serves as a primary technical and client interface, and delivers full‑scope automation solutions across a variety of industries.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and own automation projects end‑to‑end, managing technical scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables while serving as the primary client interface
  • Translate client requirements into complete control system solutions, including control strategies, plant network architecture, virtualization, and platform selection
  • Design PLC‑based electrical control systems, selecting components and producing AutoCAD Electrical drawing packages for panels, VFDs, and motor control systems
  • Specify and recommend field instrumentation such as flow, level, and pressure devices
  • Develop and standardize PLC logic, configure HMI and SCADA interfaces, and deploy automation software on production systems
  • Support control panel fabrication, field installation, and modifications to existing PLC systems
  • Troubleshoot automated equipment and process control systems, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement
  • Prepare project documentation including requirements, design packages, test protocols, and operation & maintenance procedures
  • Champion safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout project execution

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • 10+ years of industrial automation experience
  • Advanced proficiency with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, Wonderware, iFix)
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Proven ability to own automation projects and interface directly with clients
Strong Plus
  • Experience with DCS platforms
  • Expertise in VFD applications, PID control, and loop tuning
  • Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, ControlNet, BACnet)
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, UL508A, IEC, ATEX, CE standards
