ACE Controls is looking for a Senior Project Estimator for our Humble, TX office, with deep expertise in industrial controls, instrumentation, and electrical (I&E) systems to support and lead the estimating efforts for complex projects. This role is hands-on and senior in scope, combining detailed estimate execution with responsibility for pricing judgment, risk evaluation, and scope clarity.

The Senior Project Estimator drives end-to-end estimate development, combining hands-on execution with senior-level judgment to ensure accuracy, constructability, and competitive positioning. This role collaborates closely with engineering, project management, vendors, and clients to deliver high-quality, executable proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform end-to-end estimate execution for industrial controls and I&E projects, from initial document review through final proposal submission
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents:
    • P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical one line diagrams, and control schematics
    • Instrumentation, control panels, PLC/DCS systems, and field installation scope
  • Develop detailed material lists, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates using current market pricing and productivity factors
  • Apply senior level judgment:
    • Pricing approach and cost drivers
    • Scope interpretations, assumptions, and exclusions
    • Risk identification and mitigation
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management to ensure constructability and alignment between estimate and execution
  • Communicate directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to gather pricing, clarify scope, and support bid development
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and cost‑saving alternatives where appropriate
  • Maintain and update historical cost data, estimating tools, and pricing models
  • Participate in pre‑bid meetings and internal bid reviews as required
  • Track awarded work and compare estimated vs. actual costs to support continuous improvement in estimating accuracy

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in estimating or project costing within industrial controls, automation, or I&E environments required
  • Strong technical understanding:
    • Industrial automation and control systems (PLC and DCS)
    • Instrumentation and industrial electrical systems
    • Industrial, utility, or process based construction practices
  • Proven experience performing hands-on estimating for complex projects
  • Strong ability to evaluate scope, identify risk, and apply sound pricing judgment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications with minimal guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with platforms such as Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, or similar control systems
  • Background in water/wastewater, industrial manufacturing, or process industries
  • Field experience as an electrician, controls technician, or commissioning engineer
  • Familiarity with UL508A, NEC, safety standards, and industry regulations
